The teaching method and structure of classes
Our communicative approach is based on interactive activities in the classroom and group activities outside with many cultural trips to a variety of local places of archaeological, artistic and historical interest. Classes are always small with a maximum of 6 students and courses are offered in six levels as described in the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. English for teens in beautiful Edinburgh

The Hamilton School of English - Edinburgh is an international summer school for 12-18 year olds. We offer a full programme of tuition and activities to teenagers at our beautiful summer centre based at Merchiston Castle School, 294 Colinton Road, Edinburgh EH13 0PU (20 minutes from the city centre by bus). As owner and director of the school, Mrs Darling maintains a good mix of nationalities at this excellent small school (max 120, average 90 pupils per course) and she personally interviews and selects host families and teachers. The Hamilton School of English offers 18 hours of tuition per week in small classes (max 12 per teacher). Afternoon activities include informal English language study during Project Sessions (including music, drama, magazine work, dance, etc), excursions, sports, crafts, and on one afternoon, optional exam preparation (PET and KET). We also arrange 4 evening activities per week. Pupils are met on arrival at Edinburgh airport or train station by their host families. Host families also show pupils how to get to school on the first morning. Please note that we offer only host family accommodation, not residential. Summer courses run for 2, 3 and 4 weeks. Fees include a non-refundable enrolment fee (Â£200), transfers to and from Edinburgh airport or train station, tuition, shared homestay (host family) accommodation, all meals (breakfast and dinner with family, packed or hot lunches provided by school), excursions (including admission charges), and all scheduled activities. On arrival, students must buy a bus pass, which costs Â£15 per week, but apart from that students need only pocket money (we recommend Â£15-Â£25 per week). We can also arrange courses for closed groups outwith July and August for any age group (teens, seniors, golf + English, gardens + English and other special interest groups, etc).
